ABSTRACT

A closer mother-infant relationship is crucial for a healthy brain development. Biological basis of attachment behavior have began to be delucidated. In rats models, the physical contac trough liking and grooming determines demethylation of teh glucocorticoid receptor gene (GCR) in hypotalamus and a consequent beahvioral change in offspring. In human, a few postmortem studies show similiar pattern of methylation on suicided patients. The aim of the present study is to look for association between methylation of GCR on leucocytes and attachment style in children. We recruit 50 children between one to five years old with their mothers, and made interview and record videotapes. Also we took blood samples for meassure GCR methylation. Our results show an association between a methylated pattern of GCR and the presence of trauma or child abuse in infancy. These results means that adverse rearing experiences could epigenetically alter gene expression.

  1. hi Raul,
    Just some details:
    "the physical contac tHrough liking..."
    "demethylation of THE glucocorticoid receptor..."
    "...consequent BEHAVIORAL change..."
"The aim of the present study WAS to look..."
    "Our results SHOWED an association"

    Bye,

  2. Finally exist scientific probes, accepted by scientific world, that allow us to consider the real importance of a good child experience during his/her first years of life. With this comment I situate myself in the outgroup of this science because I don´t work in that field (neurocognition, epigenetic, neural development and others).
I´m really glad to see that in Chile there exist this kind of research.

  3. Hi Raúl,

Here go some suggestions to improve your draft:

    1. Closer or close?
    2. Can you find another word for delucidate?
    3. In humans
    4. patterns
    5. suicidal patients? or patients that have taken their life or who committed suicide
    6. Recruited
    7. We interviewed and video-recorded them
    8. to measure
    9. These result may mean that ....

Good job. Hope these suggestions help you improve your abstract. Remember to include a title and keywords.

    Best,
    Claudia

it seems that we are in similar research areas but fortunately we are not doing the same. Have you ever read Aldo Lucion papers? He is working with neonatal handling (stress), which involves repeated brief maternal separations followed by experimental manipulations. He found that that procedure reduces stress responses and alters sexual and social behavior in adult rats . What do you think?.
